　　The Doll is an adaptation of the novel, The Doll (novel) by Bolesław Prus, which is regarded by many as one of the finest Polish novels ever written and, along with Pharaoh (novel), made Bolesław Prus a potential candidate for the Nobel Prize in literature. The influence of Émile Zola is evident, and some have compared the novel to Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert; both were Prus&♯39;s contemporaries. The movie, however, may be more compared to Stendhal&♯39;s Le Rouge et le Noir, (The Red and the Black).
　　The Doll constitutes a panorama of life in Warsaw between 1878 and 1879, and at the same time is a subtle story of three generations of Polish idealists, their psychological complications, their involvement in the history of the nineteenth century, social dramas, moral problems and the experience of tragic existence. At the same time this story describes the disintegration of social relationships and the growing separation of a society whose aristocratic elite spreads the models of vanity and idleness. In the bad air of a backward country, anti-Semitic ideas are born, valuable individuals meet obstacles on their way, and scoundrels are successful.
　　This poetic love story follows a nouveau riche merchant, Stanislaw Wokulski, through a series of trials and tribulations occasioned by his obsessive passion for an aristocratic beauty, Izabela Lecka, played by the famous Polish actress, Beata Tyszkiewicz.
　　Plot:
　　As a descendant of an impoverished Polish noble family, young Wokulski is forced to work as a waiter at Hopfer&♯39;s, a Warsaw restaurant, while dreaming of a life in science. After taking part in the failed 1863 Uprising against Tsarist Russia, he is sentenced to exile in Siberia. On eventual return to Warsaw, he becomes a salesman at Mincel&♯39;s haberdashery. Marrying the late owner&♯39;s widow (who eventually dies), he comes into money and uses it to set up a partnership with a Russian merchant he had met while in exile. The two merchants go to Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, and Wokulski makes a fortune supplying the Russian Army. The enterprising Wokulski now proves a romantic at heart, falling in love with Izabela, daughter of the vacuous, bankrupt aristocrat, Tomasz Łęcki. In his quest to win Izabela, Wokulski begins frequenting theatres and aristocratic salons; and to help her financially distressed father, founds a company and sets the aristocrats up as shareholders in his business.The indolence of these aristocrats, who secure with their pensions, are too lazy to undertake new business risks, frustrates Wokulski. His ability to make money is respected but his lack of family and social rank is condescended to. Because of his "help" (in secret) to Izabela&♯39;s impecunious but influential father, the girl becomes aware of his affection. 　　American psychologist John Holden arrives in London to participate in a symposium aiming to expose witchcraft and devil-worship as a fraud, with attention centered on a cult run by a Julian Karswell. Debarking his plane, Holden learns that the symposium leader, Henry Harrington, has suddenly died and he is now in charge. What only the audience knows is that Harrington was clearly killed by a demon, apparently summoned by Karswell to avenge his persecution. Despite both threatening and cajoling behavior by Karswell, Holden determines to proceed, though the only cult member willing to talk about his experiences is in a prison psychiatric ward, catatonic after allegedly killing yet another cult member. However, Harrington&♯39;s niece, Joanna, believes, based on her uncle&♯39;s notes, that Karswell may indeed have some satanic powers derived from an ancient tome in an obscure language which he has been able to translate, and attempts to warn the skeptic Holden. Karswell&♯39;s mother also attempts to warn Holden off. However, the thing which begins to most get to Holden are the occasional, but mounting, sensory and mental disturbances he begins experiencing after an encounter with Karswell, and the discovery that, during this encounter, Karswell secretly slipped a slip of parchment with a curse in runic symbols on it into Holden&♯39;s belongings, a parchment identical to one Harrington recorded having had passed to him in a similar manner shortly before his death... 　　不久，超过60所高专参加的机器人竞赛来开序幕。未经充分磨合的小组、设计不够完善的作品，里美难忘的夏天就这样开始了……

Washing Woman

　　19世纪的英国，阶级隔阂还十分分明。这天，英国上层出身的露西（海伦娜•邦汉•卡特 Helena Bonham Carter 饰）和表姐夏洛特一起佛罗伦撒度假，不巧，露西住的酒店的房间看不到风景。同时来住店的英国父子两乔治（朱利安•桑兹 Julian Sands 饰）和他父亲见状，热心的父亲要和露西换一间房，因为他的房里能看到风景。露西开始不同意，在好心的店主的劝说下最终她同意了。
　　乔治和露西很快堕入了爱河，然而下等阶层出身的乔治身上有着很多露西看不惯的“陋习”，夏洛特也不甚喜欢乔治，双方在交往中闹了不少“笑话”。一次，乔治“越轨”吻了露西一下，露西认为乔治太过“不合礼仪”，于是独自回了英国。
　　乔治很快也回了国，然而，这时露西已经订了婚……

　　电影改编自日本高中老师，同时也是编剧的畑澤聖語以其教学生活经验为基础创作的讲述校园暴力的同名舞台剧《想见你父母》。讲述初二学生自杀并留下遗书，根据他的遗书上列举的学生的名字，加害学生的父母们聚集在学校，和学校方面就受害者的遗书展开了激烈的争论。

　　在一个风雨交加的夜晚，罗贝尔托在电唱机上放上一张唱片，立刻，优美的钢琴曲唤起了他对往日的回忆。这张唱片是他的儿子卢卡作为礼物送给他的，而现在卢卡已经永远地、永远地消失了。
　　十岁的卢卡是罗贝尔托的独生子，孩子的母亲已经去世了，做律师的父亲又公务繁忙，因此卢卡是在缺少亲人关怀的环境中长大。卢卡感到孤独，产生了对于父爱的强烈需要，他渴望能得到父亲更多的关怀。复活节假期到了，卢卡从学校回到了家中，他买了一张唱片预备送给父亲，同时打算和父亲商量一下假期怎么过，一直等到天黑，父亲也没回来。第二天早晨，父亲一早出门走了，卢卡只得到法院去找，总算找到父亲，罗贝尔托答应晚上和他再谈。可是，罗贝尔托晚上并没有回来，孤单无聊的卢卡架起放映机，放映父亲拍摄的家庭影片。在银幕上，卢卡看到了自己的母亲，同时又看到了另一个女人，一个欢乐的、充满朝气的女人。卢卡当然不知道这个名叫韦罗妮卡的女人正在和罗贝尔托相恋，只知道她不是自己的母亲。
　　又一个晚上，卢卡终于同父亲一起坐在餐馆共进晚餐了。罗贝尔托本来打算让韦罗妮卡同他们一起度假，可是卢卡一说“我就想和你在一起”，罗贝尔托只好把话咽了回去。然而，韦罗妮卡却由于担心同卢卡难以相处，因而在未同卢卡讲清楚之前不同意参与罗贝尔托的家庭生活。这可真使罗贝尔托感到这个爸爸不好当了。
　　他们三个人终于坐着轿车，踏上了度假的旅途。但是韦罗妮卡从卢卡那双猜疑而又充满不满的眼睛里看出，罗贝尔托并没有把她向卢卡介绍，因此到了度假地，韦罗妮卡不愿意同他们父子俩住在一起，而是单独住进了附近的旅馆。韦罗妮卡努力从心灵上同卢卡这个敏感的孩子接近，他们的关系慢慢地融洽了。
　　然而，韦罗妮卡的存在却使卢卡同父亲产生了隔阂。卢卡担心会失去父亲的爱，因此从度假地回来后一直闷闷不乐。在别人的劝说下，卢卡同父亲进行了一次严肃的交谈，罗贝尔托告诉他男人的生活里需要有女人作伴，而对韦罗妮卡的爱不会影响对卢卡的爱，父子俩终于和解。为了使卢卡高兴，罗贝尔托决定让卢卡推迟一个星期返校，他要带着卢卡到山上去滑雪。
　　在山上，父子俩玩得很高兴。不幸的事情发生了，卢卡在滑雪橇时不慎从山坡上滚了下来，住进了医院。这一回虽然并没有摔伤，医生却查出卢卡已经患了致命的白血病，罗贝尔托惊呆了。这时，罗贝尔托才感到自己平时对儿子的关心太少了，他很少到学校去看望卢卡，他总是以工作忙为借口，剥夺了卢卡同他在一起的机会，就连这次滑雪也是韦罗妮卡出的主意，他自问:“我都干了些什么啊!”
　　卢卡的病情急剧地恶化，在奄奄一息的时候，他提出要父亲带着他到渴望已久的游乐场去玩一次，罗贝尔托痛苦地答应了。也许是出于同情心，已经关门的空无一人的游乐场为卢卡重新开放，罗贝尔托抱着心爱的卢卡在各处玩着。由于父亲不来看望而经常遭到同学们嘲笑的卢卡看到整个游乐场都归他一个人玩时，苍白的脸上泛起了笑容并告诉父亲从学校回来时曾买过一张唱片，本来打算送给父亲，后来由于老是见不着父亲，自己生了气，把唱片藏了起来。现在他希望父亲找到唱片并且能喜欢它。卢卡深情地望着父亲，轻轻地说:“可惜我再也见不着你了，请你不要难过。”卢卡垂下了头，他在父亲的怀抱中，怀着对父亲的无限留恋离开了人世。
