不是冤家不上床

　　葛饰区龟有公园前派出所的巡查长两津堪吉（香取慎吾 饰）是一个颇令人头疼的警察，每到发薪日他便被商店街的店家追索欠账，穷困潦倒之际又想出各种小伎俩骗钱花，令他的上司大原部长（伊武雅刀 饰）甚为气恼。这一日，他重逢了童年时代的好友泽村桃子（深田恭子 饰），此时的桃子是一家剧团的老板，同时还独自抚养上小学的女儿小唯。热情开朗的阿两很快赢得全剧团的欢迎，他也一厢情愿希望和桃子再续前缘。就在这时，警察局长官的孙女遭人绑架，全葛饰区进入紧急状态。不久阿两他们发现，这起绑架案竟是一场误会，而绑架者与桃子有着千丝万缕的关系……
　　本片根据秋本治的人气喜剧漫画《こちら葛飾区亀有公園前派出所》（中文译名《乌龙派出所》）改编。

　　安德（格扎·莫桑伊 Géza Morcsányi 饰）在一家屠宰场担任着财务总监的职位，他没有朋友，没有恋人，每天独来独往，早已经习惯了这样孤单的生活。一天，安德的屠宰场里新来了一名质检员名叫玛利亚（亚历山德拉·博尔贝伊 Alexandra Borbély 饰），虽然安德自认为自己的性格已经足够内向了，但玛利亚比他还要“社恐”，她不仅有着交流障碍，还患有强迫症，对除了工作以外的人际交往避之而不及。
　　随着时间的推移，玛利亚渐渐吸引了安德的注意，因为表面看似疏离的两人，共同保守着一个秘密——每天夜里，他们都会做同样的梦，这个秘密的存在渐渐拉近了他们之间的距离。

　　故事发生在奥地利维也纳，丘托克（阿道夫·门吉欧 Adolphe Menjou 饰）虽然迎娶了年轻美貌的妻子米琪（玛丽·普雷沃斯特 Marie Prevost 饰），但他的婚姻生活却并不幸福，因为米琪是一个水性杨花的女人，结婚没多久就移情别恋了。米琪喜欢的是自己的好友夏洛特（Florence Vidor 饰）的丈夫弗兰茨（蒙蒂·布卢 Monte Blue 饰），对他百般引诱，而丘托克决定将此作为提出离婚的绝佳契机，于是雇佣了私家侦探（哈利·迈耶斯 Harry Myers 饰）想要得到米琪出轨的证据。
　　夏洛特当然明白米琪的狼子野心，于是对她处处提防，而因为米琪的介入，她和弗兰茨之间的感情也渐渐出现了裂痕。终于，在一次激烈的争吵后，弗兰茨选择了离家出走。

　　以处女作《性、谎言、录影带》一举成名的新进导演史蒂文．索达伯格，在接下来的作品中出人意料地选择了一个十分冷门的题材，从小孩子的角度来反映三十年美国经济崩溃时期的贫民生活是如何刻苦艰辛熬过来的。剧本根据美国作家A．E．贺契纳的童年回忆改编，主人翁是小学生，其父是推销员，其母生病住院休养，弱弟弟被逼送到亲戚家寄养。他一个人住在小旅馆中，依靠朋友的帮忙和自已的随机应变来应付三餐不继的生活。全片并无完整故事，但导演透过一些生动的细节描写和演员的生动演出重塑出一个特殊的时代，童星杰西．布拉德福德长得十分英俊可爱，表现也出奇的精彩。

　　"Falsely accused as the murderer of my own husband... Oh, the cruel machinations of fate!" A female teacher (Lee Yong-ae) gives shelter to an escaped convict, but her husband, misconstruing her intentions, reacts violently and accidentally stabs himself to death in the process. The teacher is charged with her husband&♯39;s murder, but fortunately the prosecutor on the case is a former student of hers, of whom she had taken painstaking care when she was working at an elementary school. Remembering her kindness to him, the prosecutor uncovers her innocence in court, and she is acquitted of the crime.

　　A Public Prosecutor and a Teacher is familiar to us for the performance of Shin Chool, Korea&♯39;s last silent movie narrator (known as "byeonsa"in Korean). Numerous critics have recommended the film, praising it as "a silent movie that allows us to examine the narrator-accompanied method of 16mm films" (Chung Jong-wha), "the work of Korea&♯39;s last silent movie narrator" (Kim Hong-joon), a movie that "reflects the public&♯39;s consciousness and has great historical value" (Lee Seung-hun), and "the archetypal new-school film" (Chung Sung-il). As evidenced by such commentary, A Public Prosecutor and a Teacherenjoys greater recognition for its historical value as the only surviving silent movie in Korea than for its artistic or technical aspects. What is ironic is the fact that this recognition derivesfrom a production and screening method that fell behind the times, as sound films (or "talkies") had already become the norm when the movie was first made. Its inclusion in the list is therefore based on its historical, social context rather than on the film itself.
