　　The Doll is an adaptation of the novel, The Doll (novel) by Bolesław Prus, which is regarded by many as one of the finest Polish novels ever written and, along with Pharaoh (novel), made Bolesław Prus a potential candidate for the Nobel Prize in literature. The influence of Émile Zola is evident, and some have compared the novel to Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert; both were Prus&♯39;s contemporaries. The movie, however, may be more compared to Stendhal&♯39;s Le Rouge et le Noir, (The Red and the Black).
　　The Doll constitutes a panorama of life in Warsaw between 1878 and 1879, and at the same time is a subtle story of three generations of Polish idealists, their psychological complications, their involvement in the history of the nineteenth century, social dramas, moral problems and the experience of tragic existence. At the same time this story describes the disintegration of social relationships and the growing separation of a society whose aristocratic elite spreads the models of vanity and idleness. In the bad air of a backward country, anti-Semitic ideas are born, valuable individuals meet obstacles on their way, and scoundrels are successful.
　　This poetic love story follows a nouveau riche merchant, Stanislaw Wokulski, through a series of trials and tribulations occasioned by his obsessive passion for an aristocratic beauty, Izabela Lecka, played by the famous Polish actress, Beata Tyszkiewicz.
　　Plot:
　　As a descendant of an impoverished Polish noble family, young Wokulski is forced to work as a waiter at Hopfer&♯39;s, a Warsaw restaurant, while dreaming of a life in science. After taking part in the failed 1863 Uprising against Tsarist Russia, he is sentenced to exile in Siberia. On eventual return to Warsaw, he becomes a salesman at Mincel&♯39;s haberdashery. Marrying the late owner&♯39;s widow (who eventually dies), he comes into money and uses it to set up a partnership with a Russian merchant he had met while in exile. The two merchants go to Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, and Wokulski makes a fortune supplying the Russian Army. The enterprising Wokulski now proves a romantic at heart, falling in love with Izabela, daughter of the vacuous, bankrupt aristocrat, Tomasz Łęcki. In his quest to win Izabela, Wokulski begins frequenting theatres and aristocratic salons; and to help her financially distressed father, founds a company and sets the aristocrats up as shareholders in his business.The indolence of these aristocrats, who secure with their pensions, are too lazy to undertake new business risks, frustrates Wokulski. His ability to make money is respected but his lack of family and social rank is condescended to. Because of his "help" (in secret) to Izabela&♯39;s impecunious but influential father, the girl becomes aware of his affection. In the end she consents to accept him, but without true devotion or love.(wikipedia)

　　When William Gridley arrives from the US in London, he rents part of Carly Hardwicke&♯39;s house from her and promptly begins to fall in love. Gridley doesn&♯39;t know that many people think she killed her husband but his boss, the American ambassador, knows and doesn&♯39;t take this "lapse of judgement" lightly. Since Carly is also American, Gridley saves his job by introducing her to the ambassador, who is promptly smitten and promises to help her. So when a Scotland Yard detective arrives, wanting to get to the truth one way or another, they say they&♯39;ll help him. And then the comedic complications really begin.

　　写小说的金孝燮从未真真正正出版过一本象样的书，一次与人争吵后被判入狱，深感自卑的他不断被外界批评为三流作家，生活也很窘迫。可是他却爱上一个已婚女人。而另一个未婚女子深深地爱着这个小说家。未婚女子对作家的爱是毫无条件的，她以前是出版社的编辑，后来在电影院售票，并 同时打几份工。他与作家约会时付咖啡钱，心甘情愿地借钱给作家，为他修改书稿。在作家三十五岁生日时，她带着蛋糕和礼物来到作家的住处想给他一个惊喜，作家却责怪未婚女子来之前不给他打电话。这时，已婚女人从作家的屋里冲出，作家急忙追赶，未婚女子告诉作家，她已做好为他奉献一生的准备，作家明确地告诉未婚女子，他深切地爱着这个已婚的女人。在街上，他对未婚女子大打出手，发泄着的自己的情绪，躲在一旁的未婚女子的男同事把这一幕尽收眼底，对未婚女子表达了爱意，失落的未婚女子与这个男同事发生了关系。

　　薩謬爾是一位住在紐約上城，因妻子的驟逝而煩悶不已的哈西德猶太教領唱，擔憂她的身軀會腐爛而感到心神不寧因此想從他的宗教中尋求慰藉。一位當地社區大學生物學教授秘密地與亞伯特發展夥伴關係的同時，他們兩位踏上如同黑暗漫畫般的旅程以及頻繁地接觸死後世界。

　　唐尼（连姆·尼森 Liam Neeson 饰）曾经是满怀着正义感惩奸除恶的警察，却因为意外而被迫离职，离职之后，唐尼成为了一名私家侦探，专门为离婚案件提供线索。唐尼是一个可以为了达到目的而不择手段的男人，这种不择手段包括为了能够找到出轨证据而不惜让自己的妻子安捷琳（劳拉·桑·吉亚科莫 Laura San Giacomo 饰）去勾引客户的丈夫。
　　一次，唐尼又故技重施，哪知道玩脱了，不仅客户被杀，甚至牵连到了老婆，更糟的是，偷鸡不成蚀把米的唐尼成为了最大嫌疑人遭到了警方的追捕。而能够替唐尼洗脱罪名的人，只有他自己了。

　　新宿歌舞伎町を舞台にした東京アンダーグラウンド系アクションエンターテインメント作品。2部作で公開する。まだどことなくあどけなさが残る少女、千鶴と美音が「解決屋」の事務所へとやってきた。千鶴は援交グループ「JKC」のリーダーで、援助交際をする少女たちを束ねて大金を稼いでいた。しかし、街のチンピラにみかじめ料を要求され、脅されているという。「250万円の解決料」が払えるんだったら依頼を受けてもいいと言う黒斗。「たったそれだけで助けてくれんの？」千鶴が美音の背負っているカバンを開くと、一千万円以上の大金が入っていた。即金で250万円を渡す千鶴。呆れながらも千鶴の依頼を引き受け、みかじめ料を要求してきたチンピラたちの調査を始める解決屋。簡単に依頼を解決したかと思ったが、事件の裏には思いもよらぬ事実が待ち受けていた…。

　　吉他手埃尔（安东尼奥•班德拉斯 Antonio Banderas 饰）靠在夜总会表演为生。一天，他的女友遭到了当地的一个大毒枭的枪杀，而埃尔的左手也遭到枪击，从此不能再弹吉他了。于是，埃尔的吉他盒子里放的不再是吉他，而是武器装备。他带着他的吉他盒子穿过一个又一个街头，为的是为女友报仇雪恨。大毒枭得知埃尔正在寻仇，于是派出手下前来暗杀他。危难关头，埃尔幸得美女卡罗琳娜（萨尔玛•海耶克 Salma Hayek 饰）相救。大难不死，更加坚定了埃尔报仇的决心。

　　Two differences between this Austrian version and the generally available American version are immediately obvious: they differ both in their length and in the language of the intertitles. The American version is only 1,883 metres long - at 18 frames per second a difference of some 7 minutes to the Austrian version with 2,045 metres. Whereas we originally presumed only a negligible difference, resulting from the varying length of the intertitles, a direct comparison has nevertheless shown that the Austrian version differs from the American version both in the montage and in the duration of individual scenes. Yet how could it happen that the later regional distribution of a canonical US silent film was longer than the "original version"?
　　The prevalent American version of Blind Husbands does not correspond to the version shown at the premiere of 1919. This little-known fact was already published by Richard Koszarski in 1983. The film was re-released by Universal Pictures in 1924, in a version that was 1,365 feet (416 metres) shorter. At 18 frames per second, this amounts to a time difference of 20 minutes! "Titles were altered, snippets of action removed and at least one major scene taken out entirely, where von Steuben and Margaret visit a small local chapel." (Koszarski)
　　From the present state of research we can assume that all the known American copies of the film derive from this shortened re-release version, a copy of which Universal donated to the Museum of Modern Art in 1941. According to Koszarski the original negative of the film was destroyed sometime between 1956 and 1961 and has therefore been irretrievably lost. This information casts an interesting light on the Austrian version, which can be dated to the period between the summer of 1921 and the winter of 1922. Furthermore, the copy is some 200 metres longer than the US version of 1924. If one follows the details given by Richard Koszarski and Arthur Lennig, this means that, as far as both its date and its length are concerned, the Austrian version lies almost exactly in the middle between the (lost) version shown at the premiere and the re-released one.A large part of the additional length of the film can be traced to cuts that were made to the 1924 version in almost every shot. Koszarski describes how the beginning and the end of scenes were trimmed, in order to "speed up" the film. However, more exciting was the discovery that the Austrian version contains shots that are missing in the American one - shots/countershots, intertitles - and furthermore shows differences in its montage (i.e. the placing of the individual shots within a sequence). All this indicates that Die Rache der Berge constitutes the oldest and most completely preserved material of the film.
