　　The Doll is an adaptation of the novel, The Doll (novel) by Bolesław Prus, which is regarded by many as one of the finest Polish novels ever written and, along with Pharaoh (novel), made Bolesław Prus a potential candidate for the Nobel Prize in literature. The influence of Émile Zola is evident, and some have compared the novel to Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert; both were Prus&♯39;s contemporaries. The movie, however, may be more compared to Stendhal&♯39;s Le Rouge et le Noir, (The Red and the Black).
　　The Doll constitutes a panorama of life in Warsaw between 1878 and 1879, and at the same time is a subtle story of three generations of Polish idealists, their psychological complications, their involvement in the history of the nineteenth century, social dramas, moral problems and the experience of tragic existence. At the same time this story describes the disintegration of social relationships and the growing separation of a society whose aristocratic elite spreads the models of vanity and idleness. In the bad air of a backward country, anti-Semitic ideas are born, valuable individuals meet obstacles on their way, and scoundrels are successful.
　　This poetic love story follows a nouveau riche merchant, Stanislaw Wokulski, through a series of trials and tribulations occasioned by his obsessive passion for an aristocratic beauty, Izabela Lecka, played by the famous Polish actress, Beata Tyszkiewicz.
　　Plot:
　　As a descendant of an impoverished Polish noble family, young Wokulski is forced to work as a waiter at Hopfer&♯39;s, a Warsaw restaurant, while dreaming of a life in science. After taking part in the failed 1863 Uprising against Tsarist Russia, he is sentenced to exile in Siberia. On eventual return to Warsaw, he becomes a salesman at Mincel&♯39;s haberdashery. Marrying the late owner&♯39;s widow (who eventually dies), he comes into money and uses it to set up a partnership with a Russian merchant he had met while in exile. The two merchants go to Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78, and Wokulski makes a fortune supplying the Russian Army. The enterprising Wokulski now proves a romantic at heart, falling in love with Izabela, daughter of the vacuous, bankrupt aristocrat, Tomasz Łęcki. In his quest to win Izabela, Wokulski begins frequenting theatres and aristocratic salons; and to help her financially distressed father, founds a company and sets the aristocrats up as shareholders in his business.The indolence of these aristocrats, who secure with their pensions, are too lazy to undertake new business risks, frustrates Wokulski. His ability to make money is respected but his lack of family and social rank is condescended to. Because of his "help" (in secret) to Izabela&♯39;s impecunious but influential father, the girl becomes aware of his affection. In the end she consents to accept him, but without true devotion or love.(wikipedia)

　　大炊介高央は田宮神剣流道場の嫡男で、秀才の誉れが高かったが、師範代で妹みぎわの許婚者である吉岡進之助を道場で斬殺してからは、常軌を逸した行動がめだった。愛息の狂態を案じた父高茂は思案のあげく学友四人をつけて紀州の田宮家に閉じ込めた。庄屋の瀬木久兵衛や百姓娘うめを斬ったり娘なおを山菱に拉致したりの相かわらずの行状を知った高茂は、心ならずも高央の命を縮めることを決意柾木兵衛を送った。幼友達の兵衛は紀州に出かけて高央の行状を探ると意外にも斬られた男は女ぐせの悪い者ばかりということがわかった。高央乱心の噂は幕府にまで聞え、高央を殺すべく家老の帯刀が紀州にやってい来た。兵衛が山葵に高央を訪れ詰問したところ、高央はショッキングな事実を告白するのだった。高央はかつて吉岡から自分が不義の子であると知らされた。以来高央は女ぐせの悪い男達をみると狂気の様に斬ったり、家庭の複雑な娘達のよき相談相手となっていたというのだ。刀を抜いてすごんだ侍十数人もこの事実を聞いて刀を下すのだった。

　　American psychologist John Holden arrives in London to participate in a symposium aiming to expose witchcraft and devil-worship as a fraud, with attention centered on a cult run by a Julian Karswell. Debarking his plane, Holden learns that the symposium leader, Henry Harrington, has suddenly died and he is now in charge. What only the audience knows is that Harrington was clearly killed by a demon, apparently summoned by Karswell to avenge his persecution. Despite both threatening and cajoling behavior by Karswell, Holden determines to proceed, though the only cult member willing to talk about his experiences is in a prison psychiatric ward, catatonic after allegedly killing yet another cult member. However, Harrington&♯39;s niece, Joanna, believes, based on her uncle&♯39;s notes, that Karswell may indeed have some satanic powers derived from an ancient tome in an obscure language which he has been able to translate, and attempts to warn the skeptic Holden. Karswell&♯39;s mother also attempts to warn Holden off. However, the thing which begins to most get to Holden are the occasional, but mounting, sensory and mental disturbances he begins experiencing after an encounter with Karswell, and the discovery that, during this encounter, Karswell secretly slipped a slip of parchment with a curse in runic symbols on it into Holden&♯39;s belongings, a parchment identical to one Harrington recorded having had passed to him in a similar manner shortly before his death... 　　Upon receipt of a letter from Lily telling Tora that she would like to see him before she dies, Tora rushes to Okinawa, where Lily has fainted during one of her performances. Although five years has passed since they parted, the former couple continues to care about each other, and Tora nurses Lily to health. The personal favourite of Yamada Yoji , Tora-san&♯39;s Tropical Fever was the only film re-released (with added scenes) by the director to commemorate Atsumi Kiyoshi after the superstar&♯39;s death.

　　Larry Gordon, well-known crime writer, is on a train journey when a scream is heard. Upon investigation, the guard had been mugged and a man murdered. Another man is arrested but the full story is yet to be discovered.

　　Mr. Bean and Teddy venture into the loft to look for an umbrella and uncover items from past experiences, like the time Mr. Bean had to dress himself on the way to the dentist, or the time he fell asleep in moxia.cc church or when the Christmas turkey wound up on his head and even the time a tank crushed his Mini.

　　A young mute woman, living in a small village, is expecting a baby. Her husband is at the same time writing a novel and using the villagers as his characters. In the creative process, reality and imagination are constantly intertwined.

The Man Next Door

　　昭和初年，私家偵探魚塚被一老婦人委託調查被綁架女兒的下落。偵探追查下去，卻發現事件和一部消失了的電影《永遠的謎》有關，這部電影比號稱日本最早起用女性演員，歸山敎正的《生之光輝》更早有女演員表演，但被警察禁映而消失。鏡頭跟著主角深入淺草的遊樂區，探索默片年代的戲院，解說的辯士、現場配樂的樂隊、放映前的雜耍表演，當年的電影是很「綜合」的娛樂…… 完全和電影業無關的新人導演林海象一鳴驚人的處女作，比《星光夢裏人》早近三十年採用仿默片的拍法，全部黑白攝影，人物對白全部用字幕卡代替，聲軌只有配樂、效果音等，引領觀眾暢遊世紀初的夢工場。
